What exactly is Alienware?
Alienware is a computer hardware company that is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell Computers, which purchased the company in March 2006. Alienware's focus on on the hig-end, high performance gaming laptop market.
The first co-branded Dell / Alienware laptop is the M17x, and is the representative performance product for Dell's performance systems.

Alienware's products are certainly a little extreme, or more to the point, Alienware doesn't do anything normally. for example, the M11x is rife with tradeoffs, with a an arguably slow CPU but fast GPU, resulting in quicky drained batteries. The size is brilliant so it ranks high on portability but a small sized product isn't the best for gaming. But, considering the price, it seems like a great deal.
On the opposite end of the scale is the mighty M17x, with most people responding positively to Alienware's design, build quality and power. Most of the cons seem to be unified around the general size of the laptop, and the fact that it runs really hot, with times where it shuts down to protect itself. The overall feedback: if you can get past the size and have a solution to possible heating issues, then buy this laptop, this is one powerful laptop and one that will keep anyone going happily in high end gaming or high end applications.
