If purchased from an Apple dealer, then an extended warranty is available called AppleCare, where the cost of both the refurbished laptop and the extended warranty is often much less than the cost of a brand new unit. If a refurbished unit does fail, then the AppleCare program jumps into action to correct the problem immediately.

Check with the dealer or individual selling the refurbished Powerbook to see how the unit is covered and check with Apple to see if it is possible to have your unit covered with their extended program.

Although warranty repairs are very fast, and the problems are few, the most common issues with refurbished Powerbooks include dead pixels in the monitors or faulty monitors that only extended use could indicate.

CNet reports that many users were also pleasantly surprised to find that when the unit is repaired that the unit is returned with extra features or upgrades free of charge, such as memory and processor upgrades.

As of May 2006, the Powerbook was completely replaced by the MacBook line, so finding a refurbished Powerbook will likely be a great deal and is still a great laptop computer, it just lacks the bells and whistles that mainstream laptops will now have, but will get done all that you require as a basic computer.
